So Long a Letter by Mariama Ba inspired me to write this poem

Layers of Love

falling in love
eager to live it
we are soaked by the rain
how long does it take
to heal the pain

hoping and praying
there is the dreaded sting
and writhing of the soul
wanting love like breath

loving we look outside
to take from us the sorrow
and find our joy expand
even when soaked by the rain
